Sukiyaki Kigen: Premium Kansai-Style Sukiyaki in Seoul

Hello and welcome back to Top Korea Guide! Today, I’m excited to share my visit to Sukiyaki Kigen, a fantastic dining spot nestled in Sinsa-dong, Seoul. As a huge fan of authentic Japanese sukiyaki, I just had to check it out after hearing rave reviews from my friends

Situated on the first basement floor (B1), the restaurant exudes a classic and elegant atmosphere

The restaurant features a pristine open kitchen, giving it an intimate and inviting feel—almost as if you’re dining in your own personal kitchen

We ordered the sukiyaki and sashimi course, which kicked off with a selection of Japanese-style finger foods as appetizers. One of the best things about Japanese cuisine adapted for the Korean palate is that it’s less salty and much more approachable, minimizing any strong, overpowering flavors. These starters were light, refreshing, and the perfect way to begin our meal on a high note

Next up was the sashimi course. The chef explained that because of Korea’s distinct seasons, their fish selection changes regularly to feature whatever is freshest at the time, ranging from classic flatfish to premium tuna. And of course, you can’t have an incredible meal without a great drink! I paired this course with a crisp glass of Asahi draft beer

Sukiyaki Kigen specializes in Kansai-style sukiyaki, which hits the perfect balance of subtle sweetness without feeling heavy or greasy. They use the absolute highest grade of premium beef, and every bite was incredibly delicious
